Macmillan acute oncology service
The Macmillan acute oncology service at Southampton General Hospital is for people who need to be assessed urgently due to their cancer or treatment.
The unit is on C level, east wing, between wards C3 and C4, and has five assessment spaces for people needing urgent or emergency care. The assessment area is staffed by a team of emergency nurse practitioners and can be contacted on a 24 hour emergency telephone number.
The team works closely with all departments to ensure that any patient who has a confirmed or suspected cancer diagnosis, but is admitted for another reason, is seen by a cancer specialist within 24 hours.
The initiative, developed and funded by Macmillan Cancer Support in partnership with the Trust, gives people with cancer easier access to specialist nurses and doctors, speeds up assessment, and admission to hospital where necessary.
This is not a walk-in service, please contact us first.
