Breast imaging
You may come to our breast imaging unit for routine screening, or if you have been sent by your doctor because of any problems or concerns.
Our screening programme has a consistently high cancer detection rate and exceeds most national standards.
We provide:
- Regular invitations for routine breast screening to more than 100,000 women.
- Imaging and care for women and men with symptoms in the Southampton area. This includes approximately 5,000 mammograms and 5,000 ultrasounds each year.
- Routine follow-up screening service for patients previously diagnosed with breast cancer, with a family history or referral from the genetics clinic, who are at high risk of breast cancer.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) service for the Wessex region and the Channel Islands.
- Direct referrals to our breast service team.
We're based in a specially-designed and purpose-built unit on E level at the Princess Anne Hospital. Our facilities include a comfortable and welcoming reception and waiting area, dedicated mammography and ultrasound rooms, modern consulting rooms and a prosthesis fitting room.
Mobile screening units
If you are invited to be screened as part of the national screening programme, you will visit one of the our three mobile screening units.
These are specialist vehicles equipped with a mammography clinic room, which visit sites in Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset.
