Meet the team

Julie is a neuroscience physiotherapist and facial rehabilitation specialist, with an interest in vestibular rehabilitation following acoustic neuroma surgery. She has recently completed a masters in clinical research focusing on this patient group, at the University of Southampton.

Julie's role includes leading the Face Place clinic and supporting other therapists within the Trust for patients with facial palsy. Julie is also a member of the Wessex Facial Nerve Centre multi-disciplinary team.

Jo is a specialist neuroscience physiotherapist who works in the inpatient Wessex neuro unit and the facial rehabilitation clinic. She is also a member of the Wessex Facial Nerve Centre multi-disciplinary team.

Jo's role includes working alongside Julie and Marie in the Face Place clinic assessing and treating patients with facial nerve palsy.

She has completed a graduate diploma course in the principles and skills of para-medical skin camouflage techniques with the British Association of Skin Camouflage in February 2016.

Stefka works in the Wessex Neurological Centre, stroke unit, and the facial rehabilitation clinic. She is a member of the Wessex Facial Nerve Centre multi- disciplinary team and Facial Therapy Specialists-UK.

After doing her initial training and gaining extensive experience in Bulgaria and Bahrain between 1995 and 2003, Stefka completed additional training and accreditation in the UK.

She joined the team in 2016, working alongside the other therapists in the Face Place clinic, assessing and treating patients with facial nerve palsy.

Stefka completed the advanced course for multi-disciplinary team approach for facial palsy in November 2017.

Marie's role includes working in the inpatient setting within the Wessex neurological unit, working alongside physiotherapists. She has been a member of the Face Place team for over 10 years, teaching and supervising patient exercise programmes as well as providing advice on camouflage make-up. She also teaches relatives and carers how to assist with facial massage, which is an important part of patients' therapy.

Marie volunteers with ‘Look Good Feel Better’ which is a national UK charity. LGFB charity is also based locally at UHS. The charity works with patients undergoing chemotherapy, advising and educating on a variety of make-up application techniques post cancer treatment.

In 2013 Marie graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a certificate in education. She has a background of lecturing in a wide range of complementary beauty therapies.
