Hirschsprung's disease
Children with Hirschsprung’s disease are born with the condition, and are normally diagnosed within a few days after being born. If you child has Hirschsprung's, they'll need surgery soon after being diagnosed, and will have regular outpatient appointments with our surgeons as they grow up.
More information on Hirschsprung’s disease is available on our neonatal unit pages.
Support available
Lots of parents who have experience of Hirschsprung's are willing to speak with other parents. There is also a charity that organises events for children with the condition. Find out more on the Hirschsprung's Family Connections website.
There is also a support group on Facebook for children with Hirschsprung's disease who are being treated at Southampton Children's Hospital. You can request membership of the group here.
