We hold clinics throughout the week, led by either a consultant or an advanced nurse practitioner.
They take place in the children’s orthopaedic outpatient department at Southampton General Hospital. We also run outreach clinics in Portsmouth, Basingstoke, Chichester, Guernsey, Jersey and Poole General Hospital.
If you wish to change or cancel your appointment please contact the children’s outpatient department on 023 8120 4053 or 023 8120 4075.
Please bring your child's appointment letter with you.
If any part of their lower limb (hip, knee, ankle or foot) is to be examined, please bring a pair of shorts for your child to change into.
On your arrival to the children's orthopaedic outpatient department, please check in at reception and confirm your details (your address and telephone number).
Please leave plenty of time for your visit - it may take anything from half an hour to two hours or possibly longer, as your visit may involve going to other places such as the x-ray department. Please also be aware that some patients may need more time.
We will do our best to make sure you are seen on or as near as possible to your booked appointment time. Sometimes clinics can fall behind schedule. If this happens, our clinic staff will do their best to keep you informed.
Your child may need to have:
an x-ray to confirm a diagnosis
a blood test to establish whether there is any ongoing infection
other types of scan such as a CT scan, MRI scan or bone scan.
They may also be referred for further treatments such as physiotherapy.
Your child's injury or condition could also mean that they need to come in for an operation, or be admitted for intensive treatment.
Your consultant may feel that it is necessary to refer you onto another consultant who is specialised in treating your child's injury or condition.
