Cystic fibrosis research
Through partnerships with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, European Cystic Fibrosis Society Clinical Trials Network, University of Southampton and with pharmaceutical companies, our centre holds an international reputation for high quality cystic fibrosis research. This stems from a belief that participation in research is a key aspect of improving healthcare for the benefit of all people with CF. We have been involved in developing the new CF drugs that have been so successful in treating people with CF.
Assisting with investigating potential new treatments
We aim to help take discoveries from the laboratory quickly through to becoming an available treatment for CF patents. This journey begins with clinical research trials looking at emerging treatments. This includes new ways to treat infections not only with antibiotics but also with bacteriophages, sputum thinning agents, genetic modifiers, and contribution to biobanks. We aim to offer a comprehensive portfolio of local, national and international clinical research studies for people with cystic fibrosis. Our aim is to offer everyone the chance to take part in a clinical trial. We have a dedicated research team that you can contact at all times and will support your journey as a research volunteer.
Managing your treatments
We are involved in trials to find ways to help patients manage their treatments on a day-to-day basis. These include CF Storm which aims to look at the treatment burden in this new age of Kaftrio, and CF HealthHub which helps you achieve the best results with the treatments you currently take.
We would encourage you to speak to your CF doctor about current opportunities if you would like to take part in a research study.
