Specialist physiotherapists (cystic fibrosis)

Physiotherapy is a key element in the management of cystic fibrosis.

The support we can offer is made up of several different areas:

  • teaching, assessment and modification of airway clearance techniques
  • musculoskeletal assessment and postural advice
  • continence advice, education and treatment
  • exercise prescription and advice to achieve individual goals and improve fitness
  • exercise testing
  • provision, replacement and instruction on nebuliser therapy
  • oxygen therapy if and when needed
  • relaxation and provision of equipment
  • initiation or monitoring of non-invasive ventilation if and when needed.

After you have been assessed, we aim to provide an individual treatment programme. This helps to keep your lungs clear of secretions, which reduces the risk of infection and lung damage.
