Specialist nurses (cystic fibrosis)
The CF specialist nursing service provides inpatient, outpatient, and community support. This could include at your home, place of work or college.Our role is to ensure that you receive the highest level of nursing care. The includes providing specific advice, support and education tailored to your needs. We can also give support to your family or carers.
Our roles include
- Inpatient support and education
- Training for inpatient nursing teams
- Co-ordination of admissions, discharges, and line insertions
- Nursing assessment in routine and annual review clinics
- Provision of specialist clinics including sweat tests and diabetes
- Management of the home IV service alongside the multi-disciplinary team
- Working with the paediatric team to support transition to the adult service
- Community visits which can include port flushes and supporting patients having IV antibiotics at home
- Dan Edwards
Clinical nurse specialist team manager
Dan joined the CF team in 2017 having previously worked in cardiac intensive care and respiratory. He has been leading on the development of the community service. He also manages the nursing team and assists with overall service management.
- Grainne Woodward
Grainne has previously been a ward sister on the CF ward and joined the CF team in 2018 to focus on her passion for CF related diabetes care. She assists in general clinics and inpatient support as well as running CF diabetes specialist clinics.
- Sarah Bradshaw
Sarah joined the CF nursing team in 2021. She has a wealth of experience working in the community having come from the UHS at Home IV service. Sarah has had an active role developing the community service.

The specialist nurses can be a point of contact if you have any concerns or questions. We are available during inpatient admissions and clinic reviews.
