Wellbeing information and support
Living with and beyond cancer can have a big influence on everyday life. These pages are about linking you to practical support to help you manage a ‘new normal’. You will find local and national information to help with general wellbeing, information for older people and support for individual cancer side effects but no statistics.
Cancer support workers at UHS
Our cancer support workers are a valued part of the cancer team at UHS and here to support you. They work closely with the clinical nurse specialists to provide personalised information and support for the health and wellbeing of people affected by cancer from diagnosis and beyond.
As part of their role, cancer support workers carry out holistic needs assessments (HNA). This helps to find out what is important to you and plan how to support you, your family and those close to you. This could be connecting you to financial advice or community services, befriending, taking part in health and wellbeing events and drop-ins.
Cancer support workers also signpost to local and national services, helping you to find reliable and trustworthy information at what can be a difficult, confusing time. You can meet your cancer support worker in outpatients, during treatment, in the Macmillan Centre (B level, SGH) or at a mutually convenient place.
For more information please contact Marion Rood, lead cancer support worker at Marion.Rood@uhs.nhs.uk
