The ColoREctal Wellbeing (CREW) study
The ColoREctal Wellbeing (CREW) study, funded by Macmillan Cancer Support and conducted by the Macmillan Survivorship Research Group, gathers information from 1,000 colorectal cancer patients about life after their illness.
These patients are followed to map out the path of recovery over time, to look at how long it takes to feel healthy and well again after cancer. Although it is known that people who have had cancer are likely to suffer a number of problems, both mental and physical, as a result of the disease and treatment, the normal course of recovery has not been described before.
The study looks at factors such as how long it takes to get back to feeling well, how long symptoms such as tiredness last, and the sort of things people can do to help return to normal more quickly. This includes taking into account the disease itself, the amount of treatment, the support that is available to each patient, and the kind of coping skills they have.
