Facial exercise videos

We have produced two exercise videos for people who have a facial weakness, either as a result of a condition such as Bell’s palsy or after a stroke.

If you would like to purchase the exercise videos on DVD, please contact learningsupport@uhs.nhs.uk

The facial exercise programme

This video is suitable for patients who have a facial weakness due to a condition such as Bell’s palsy.

You should only do the exercises in this video after you have been assessed by a therapist. Your therapist will advise you which of these exercises you should be doing. Do not do any of the exercises or techniques unless they have been demonstrated or recommended, as they may do more harm than good.

Feedback

Patient feedback

  • "The DVD you gave me has been a real asset. Having undergone surgery to remove a tumour in my brain six weeks ago, my concentration is at the moment not my best asset. Following Jill on the DVD has taken any concerns I know I would have had as to am I doing it right, am I overdoing the gentle techniques, have I forgotten anything. I am very grateful for the DVD which is incredibly easy to follow."
  • Facial weakness is "the most important thing to me".
  • The DVD is "easy to follow and practice on my own".

Therapist feedback

  • "Really helpful and easy to follow as a treatment plan".
  • “A useful tool to add to our "standard" treatments on the ward".

Many thanks to our patients for their valuable contribution in making these videos.
