UHS response to infected blood inquiry

Statement by Paul Grundy, chief medical officer for University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), in response to the infected blood inquiry.

“The Trust shares its deepest regrets, heartfelt sympathies and sincere apologies with all those affected by the tragic use of infected blood in the 1970s and 1980s.

“We understand the distress and concern which the results of this report may cause to those affected and their families and would like to reassure our patients that their health, safety and wellbeing remain our absolute priority.

“The Trust follows rigorous protocols and safeguards to ensure blood products and treatments are safe for patients and we remain committed to providing the highest standards of care.

“UHS patients who have concerns can contact their clinic directly, or visit the infected blood support pages on the NHS website for further help and support.”
