Both Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust have received patients who were involved in the incident.
One student is being cared for at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and a further four at Southampton General Hospital (SGH).
In a joint statement Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital Southampton said: “The Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH) in Winchester and University Hospital Southampton (UHS) were put on standby this morning, after a school bus collided with a railway bridge causing significant damage to the top of the bus.
“Three students with serious, but not life-threatening injuries have been taken to hospital of which two have been taken to SGH and one to RHCH. A further 12 students with minor injuries were dealt with at the scene and two of those were subsequently taken to SGH for further treatment.
“Services at both hospital sites continue to run as normal. We are working closely with our partners, and ask the public to use the NHS 111 service to help them decide whether visiting our emergency departments is the best course of action. Please check the Hampshire Police website and social media channels for further updates.”
