The closure affecting junctions three and four in both directions, is to allow for the final stage of the Romsey Road Bridge project and will be in affect from 10pm on Friday, January 31 to 5am on Monday, February 3.

In order to safely undertake this work, Romsey Road Bridge (A3057) along with junctions three to four of the M27 in both directions will be closed.

A number of local road closures will also be in force for the duration of the weekend due to them being unsuitable for large vehicles and high volume of traffic.

They are:

Lee Lane closed from the Raymond Brown compound to Coldharbour Lane
Toothill Road closed at the Junction with A3057
Hoe Lane closed at the junction with A3057

As a result of the work, it is anticipated that traffic along local roads and in the vicinity will be much greater than normal and so patients and visitors who will be travelling to any of the UHS sites in the area are advised to check their route and make a note of the diversions that will be in place. Staff who are due to work that weekend are also being urged to allow additional time for their journeys.

There will be clearly signed diversion routes for motorway traffic and local traffic, but previous closures did lead to significant congestion around Southampton and surrounding areas, including around UHS sites.

Unlike previous closures where the closures were lifted early, it is anticipated that this closure will remain in place for the duration of the weekend.

The UHS emergency planning team has been liaising with the contractors to ensure UHS is kept fully informed of the plans to limit the impact of the motorway closure.
