Meller House re-opens its doors to relatives of UHS patients following Estates & Charity funded refurbishment and upgrade

Southampton Hospitals Charity has worked with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) to fund the upgrade and refurbishment of Meller House, a unique facility that provides comfortable accommodation for the relatives of patients at UHS who have accessed hospital services long distances from home or in emergency situations.

With renovations costing more than £120,000, this home from home environment gives guests an opportunity to relax, whilst having the reassurance of being a stone’s throw from the main hospital buildings and now offers 8 en-suite twin bedrooms, a family bedroom with a separate bathroom, a communal lounge and kitchen area as well as parking and outdoor space.

Julie Taylor, Hotel Service Manager at UHS said, “We’re so proud of our new refurbished accommodation. With the help of the Estates team we’ve created a calm environment that is also more functional for the relatives of our patients. Meller House offers comfort to relatives and ensures they can focus on their loved ones and not worry about where to stay when far from home.”

Jeneen Thomsen, Joint Interim Director, Southampton Hospitals Charity, said, “Thanks to a generous donation, Southampton Hospitals Charity has been able to support the refurbishment which is an exciting development for the Charity and the Trust as it ensures the wellbeing of our patients by supporting their relatives with the best care and experience.”

It is only through donations that the Charity can make a difference and continue providing services like these, which are above and beyond that which can be provided through NHS funding.  Visit our website at southamptonhospitalscharity.org  to find out more about current fundraising projects and how you can get involved.
