Hospital trust announces new appointment to board of directors

Dr Tim Peachey, who is also deputy chair of Isle of Wight NHS Trust, began his three-year term last month.

He qualified in medicine at King’s College London in 1983 and worked as a consultant anaesthetist at the Royal Free Hospital in London for nearly 20 years.

Dr Peachey developed an interest in medical leadership and management and has held medical management posts including clinical director, divisional director and medical director at the Royal Free.

In 2012, he moved from medical practice into full-time management as chief executive of Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Hospitals Trust until its acquisition by the Royal Free in 2014.

He then worked as associate medical director at the NHS Trust Development Authority before moving to Barts Health NHS Trust in east London, firstly as improvement director and subsequently as deputy chief executive.

In addition to his two non-executive roles, Dr Peachey consults for companies in the medical information technology industry.

“I am really pleased to be joining the board of UHS and have watched with great interest its development and progress over past years,” he said.

“I hope my long experience of the NHS, both clinically and operationally, will enable me to provide valuable input and support to the board.”

Peter Hollins, chair of UHS, said: “Tim has extensive knowledge of the NHS from clinical, operational and management perspectives and his insight will be invaluable to our organisation.

“In addition, his role within the Isle of Wight NHS Trust as deputy chair gives him a solid overview of the local and regional health landscape, so we are extremely pleased to have him on board.”

All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public.

Dr Peachey holds no other ministerial appointments and is not involved in any political activity.

The appointment was led by the governors’ nominations committee and approved by the Council of Governors in accordance with the requirements of the trust’s constitution. Dr Peachey will receive a non-executive director remuneration of £10,000 to £15,000 per year.
