Celebrating our Hospital Heroes
The outstanding achievements of our staff took centre stage at the annual UHS Hospital Heroes awards.
Stories of colleagues going the extra mile for their patients, developing new initiatives to make their care better or supporting their teams in achieving great outcomes together, were shared at the awards ceremony.
Staged at Southampton Football Club St Mary’s Stadium, guests and nominees enjoyed a drinks reception before being welcomed by chief executive Paula Head, chairman Peter Hollins and director of nursing Gail Byrne, who also were the hosts for the evening.
Guests also heard from two speakers, Cllr Peter Baillie, Mayor of Southampton, and Emma Clark who also performed in her electric string band Cordelectra.
Tributes to all the nominees and winners continued throughout the evening with awards presented in a range of categories, including employee and team of the year, leadership, wellbeing, charity support and wellbeing.
The Daily Echo Reader’s choice award was also presented to Alok Sharma, consultant neonatalist, who was put forward for the prize for the exceptional care he gave to Charlie May and her son Cohen who sadly passed away at 12 days old. Charlie said: "Alok is an angel on earth, he was everything you need in a medical professional. He was caring and honest but professional, knowledgeable and showed genuine love and care."
The awards enjoyed the support of the Southern Daily Echo and sponsors BPP University.
