Stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy

The central south coast stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) service was commissioned by NHS England to provide treatment to appropriate patients within this geographical area, and is one of 21 such units across England.

We utilise a highly modified linear accelerator (Linac) to deliver the service.

We are commissioned to deliver treatments for adult patients whose tumours fall within the Tier 1 and Tier 2 categories:

  • Tier 1 - metastatic lesions and supratentorial meningiomas
  • Tier 2 - skull base lesions including pituitary tumours

The treatment of functional or vascular lesions or paediatric tumours will be at more specialised centres and for this region that would be at University College Hospital, London.

Unfortunately, not all lesions suitable for single fraction radiosurgery (SRS) will be treated in the initial phase and some such tumours may still be referred out of region, although the vast majority of tumours will be treated at UHS.
