Service delivery (scientific computing)
The scientific computing team are embedded within the imaging physics group at UHS. We develop bespoke scientific software for clinical and research uses, usually working with imaging data from various modalities as well as some non-imaging datasets. Our clinical software is managed under an ISO13485-accredited QMS. Our recent developments include an automated dementia imaging reporting tool for HMPAO SPECT data, an iOS application for calculating paediatric drug doses, and a statistical reporting tool for neonatal and infant MR spectroscopy data.
We work closely with colleagues within our imaging physics group (representing MRI, nuclear medicine and PET and neurological measurements), and also with other groups including UHS Digital, groups at the University of Southampton, R&D hubs such as the Biomedical Research Centre and research active specialities such as neurology and oncology.
In the Trust we lead both the UHS medical device software group (MDSG), which was formed to help bring medical device software development under an appropriate quality management system, and the development and deployment of a research imaging data management system, working with key stakeholders from local imaging research groups, as well as external collaborators. As MDSG we are now accredited to ISO13485 by BSI for the manufacture of software as a medical device for in-house use and for placing the SORT app on the market.
