Foundation fellowship programme

The fellowship programme has been designed to allow doctors to obtain equivalent training opportunities and follow a more unconventional training pathway. It is particularly suited to doctors who have trained overseas and are looking for an environment that is supportive and will help orientate them into the NHS ways of working.

We can offer you:

  • Trust induction
  • Local (department) induction
  • Dedicated fellowship office to support you during your time at UHS
  • 1:1 meetings with the programme directors
  • Careers advice
  • 5 taster days within departments of your choice
  • Classroom teaching
  • Departmental training
  • 15 external days study leave
  • Study budget (at F2 and above)
  • ePortfolio
  • Fellowship supervisor
  • Fellowship annual review
  • UHS revalidation
  • 2 hours per week for self-development time (SDT)

Teaching and training

  • Foundation fellowship years 1 and 2 will be invited to the all-day sessions
  • Foundation fellowship year 3 doctors will be able invited to attend the IMT teaching which is held once a month and follows the royal college curriculum and organised by the Wessex Deanery
  • Surgical teaching is conducted on the wards
  • All departments within the Trust have departmental teaching/training. You will get these dates when you join your department.

Supervisors

You will be assigned supervisors to help guide you both educational and clinically. It is a good idea to arrange a meeting at the start of your placement to discuss what learning opportunities are available and what is expected of you.

Programme directors

Fellowship programme directors

FF1 & FF2 - Dr Olubunmi Odofin

FF3 - Dr Sarah Batty

Responsible for overseeing the education and wellbeing of all fellowship programme doctors.

Every six months you will be required to have a 1:1 with the fellowship programme directors. This is to allow you both to bring up any concerns or questions around your training and for you to ask advice on your career.

Fellowship representative

The fellowship programme recognises that sometimes you just need to speak to someone in the same situation as you to get ideas or ask for advice and therefore we have established a fellowship representative that is a current fellow within the Trust. The fellowship representative is a connection point between doctors and the fellowship managers, but not only that, they will be able to organize courses, audits, projects and events were the fellowship doctors can lead and participate to build their portfolio and get more points in training number applications.
