Research and education
We're at the cutting edge of research and are committed to educating our staff. Our unit has close links with the University of Southampton School of Medicine and the School of Midwifery (School of Health Sciences) and is an active participant in medical and nurse education.
There is a programme of education for all staff and a regular commitment from the neonatal staff to teach on courses and education programmes. These programmes are for neonatal nurses, midwives, medical students, nurse practitioners, postgraduate medical staff and members of the Wessex Deanery.
The neonatal unit is actively involved in research, both locally and nationally and is supported by the University of Southampton and, in particular, Professor Howard Clark, whose main area of research interest is the respiratory surfactant system.
The neonatal team are active members of the Neonatal Society, the British Association of Perinatal Medicine and The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
