Children's mental health
The children’s mental health team are trained health professionals who support children and adolescents experiencing mental health difficulties.
Some of the difficulties we support young people with include low mood, anxiety, eating disorders, adjustment to acute and chronic medical conditions and behavioural difficulties. Our service can offer individual or family based work depending upon what is most helpful for the young person and their family.
What do we do?
We will work with a young person to find out and assess the problems they are having, and then look at ways of achieving change by working with the young person and their family.
We also work with children with physical health problems, to prevent an increase in mental health problems within this group.
As a team, we strive to improve the quality and provision of psychosocial care, and promote mental health care in a range of services and settings. We have contact with other health professionals in the hospital and the community, including schools, dieticians and social workers.
We also provide advice, education and teaching for professionals on child and young people’s mental health problems.
