Inpatients
Our inpatient services are based in the paediatric medical unit. This is an 18 bedded unit with a mixture of side rooms and four bedded bays.
During their treatment, your child may also be looked after on the paediatric high dependency unit, paediatric intensive care unit or the long term ventilation unit. Sometimes children are cared for on one of the other children’s wards, but their overall medical care will always be led by one of our respiratory consultants. All of our wards are managed by a senior nurse who is supported by a team of nurses and health care assistants.
Your child may also see specialists from other services including physiotherapy, play therapy, psychology, pharmacy, occupational therapy and dietetics. These teams are supported by four nurse specialists who work within respiratory medicine, cystic fibrosis and long term ventilation.
Social work support
We can offer the support of a social worker to support children and young people who use the children's cystic fibrosis service, and their parents or guardians. This is available to children who are inpatients, or attending clinics as an outpatient.
