Patients with hearing loss
If you have hearing loss and would like support while you're in hospital, please contact the accessibility team at accessible@uhs.nhs.uk or ask the staff on the ward.
We can provide:
- a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter
- a Sign Supported English (SSE) interpreter
- a lipspeaker
- a notetaker
- accessible information (for example an information leaflet presented in video format in BSL).
Hearing loops
Your hearing aid instruction sheet will tell you whether the aid has a loop setting to pick up the signal from a hearing loop. You can access hearing loops at the following locations around the Trust.
Non-clinical areas
- Southampton General Hospital main reception
- Princess Anne Hospital main reception
- The multi-faith centre (D level, centre block, Southampton General)
- Heartbeat Education Centre (F level, north wing, Southampton General)
- Dean's committee room (C level, south academic block, Southampton General)
Clinical areas
All of the below areas are on the Southampton General Hospital site. Portable hearing loops are also available for use across the Trust.
