Experience

Prof Chapman-Sheath has worked for the Trust since September 2003. 

He is highly experienced in:

  • adult reconstructive and paediatric elective (non-emergency) knee procedures
  • surgery to treat soft tissue ligament injuries
  • osteotomy (reshaping the shin or thigh bone to take weight off of a damaged knee joint)
  • cartilage transplantation (to treat cartilage damage in the knee joint)
  • complex primary (first surgery) and revision joint replacements – with an international practice in dealing with these issues.

Prof Chapman-Sheath has maintained a close interest in the development and delivery of cartilage transplantation surgery to adult patients within the NHS and private sectors.

In 2019, Prof Chapman-Sheath was appointed as a visiting professor in the faculty of engineering and physical sciences at the University of Southampton, working in a multidisciplinary team within the novel electronic devices team in the department of electronics and computing sciences (ECS). He has an active role in the development of electronic monitoring of pre and post operative sports injuries and reconstructive surgical cases, aiming to improve the diagnosis and treatment of sports ligament related injuries.

He lectures both nationally and internationally on highly complex primary and revision knee replacement management for surgical malalignment and instability issues and infected joint cases, and regularly delivers international seminars and practical workshops on advanced surgical techniques. He receives referrals from specialists throughout the south of England, the military and the Channel Islands for advice and the ongoing care of patients.
