Graduated from St George’s, University of London, in 1983.

Experience

Prof Carr joined the Trust in February 2009 as an honorary consultant in cellular pathology. His role involves surgical pathology reporting in the field of gastrointestinal pathology, including the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, liver and pancreas.

Prof Carr has special interests in diseases of the appendix and cancer of the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), especially pseudomyxoma peritonei. He's director of research at the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute, Basingstoke.

Prof Carr carries out autopsies by consent and for HM Coroner.

Research

Prof Carr's research interests include:

the link between genetic changes, molecular expression and clinical behaviour in neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract, especially neoplasms of the appendix
prognostic factors in pseudomyxoma peritonei
classification and inter-observer variation in pathological reporting of pseudomyxoma peritonei and appendiceal neoplasms.
