Experience

Prof Byrne has worked for the Trust since 1999.

He trained in medicine, endocrinology and chemical pathology in hospitals in Cardiff, Hammersmith and Cambridge. Prof Byrne is a clinical scientist undertaking original research related to metabolic syndrome, obesity and non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This research is particularly relevant to vascular disease, type 2 diabetes and chronic liver disease.

Inaugural director of Southampton Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, 1999 to 2004.
Royal Society of Medicine honorary junior secretary (and committee member, lipids and cardiovascular risk section) since 2005.
