Mr Theodore Velissaris

Mr Velissaris is a cardiothoracic surgeon with a sub-specialty interest in adult cardiac surgery.

Experience

Mr Velissaris has been working as a consultant cardiac surgeon since May 2009. He was initially appointed at Manchester Royal Infirmary and then moved to Southampton in 2013.

He has a busy surgical practice, performing around 300 operations a year. He performs a wide spectrum of adult cardiac surgery including coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic valve replacement, mitral valve repair and replacement, aortic surgery, re-operative surgery and emergency procedures.

Research

Mr Velissaris was awarded an MD thesis by the University of Southampton in 2008 for his work on conventional versus beating heart coronary artery bypass grafting. He has presented research work at numerous national and international conferences and has been awarded several prizes. He maintains an active interest in research and has written more than 30 scientific publications.
