Experience

Mr Hancock has worked for the Trust since March 2011. He has developed a specific interest in knee surgery, ligament reconstruction and arthroscopy (keyhole surgery for joints).

After qualifying in 1998, Mr Hancock spent two years working in renowned major trauma centres (Groote Schuur and Tygerberg Hospitals) in South Africa. In the UK, he advanced his interest in orthopaedic surgery by working with leading international experts across the country.

Mr Hancock completed his higher surgical training rotation in the south of England, attaining fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009. During this time he established a broad experience in all aspects of trauma and orthopaedic surgery.

In 2010, Mr Hancock was awarded a year’s fellowship in Sydney, Australia, researching bone graft substitutes and artificial ligaments with the University of New South Wales. During this time he developed expertise in the latest techniques in hip and knee surgery, working at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, University of Sydney.

Research

Since 2015, Mr Hancock has been principal investigator on a number of NIHR multicentre clinical trials. These studies are researching Achilles ruptures (a tear through the Achilles tendon), wound healing and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery.
