Experience
Mr Chamberlain is a consultant thoracic surgeon who has worked for the Trust since June 2010. In June 2018, he became clinical lead for thoracic surgery.
Mr Chamberlain performs all aspects of adult thoracic surgery, excluding oesophageal surgery, and undertakes close to 300 operations a year. The majority of procedures he performs are by video assisted thoracic surgery (keyhole surgery) but he also performs open surgery.
Mr Chamberlain conducts surgery for the following conditions:
- lung cancer
- pneumothorax
- chest wall disorders including pectus excavatum/carinatum (Nuss/Ravitch procedure)
- thymoma/myasthenia gravis
- disorders of the diaphragm
- mediastinal disease
- pleural disease/effusion.
He also performs mechanical rib fixation for trauma patients in the acute and chronic setting.
Before joining the Trust Mr Chamberlain taught anatomy at the University of Birmingham. He then spent time at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, before returning to Bristol for a period of research.
Key achievements
- Awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in cardiothoracic surgery and gained specialist recognition in thoracoscopic surgery.
