Training and education

  • Graduate of the Christian Medical College, Vellore.
  • Ophthalmology training at the Christian Medical College, Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, and Yorkshire deanery.
  • Specialist registrar training at St. Paul's Eye Unit, Royal Liverpool University Hospital (Mersey deanery).

Experience

Mr Jacob has joined the Trust in July 2006.

He has wide experience in the management of all ophthalmological conditions in two countries, over nearly two decades.

He provides glaucoma training alongside colleagues, and is experienced in augmented trabeculectomy surgery, deep sclerectomy (non-penetrating trabeculectomy) surgery, drainage implant surgery and combined procedures.

Key achievements

Mr Jacob conducted an epidemiological study on the prevalence of primary glaucoma in south India as his dissertation for his master of surgery degree in ophthalmology. It identified angle closure glaucoma as the more prevalent disease in the study population. Narrow angle suspects were reviewed five years later to generate incidence data that was rare in the literature.
