Experience

Miss Howse is an acute general surgeon who joined the Trust in 2014.

Miss Howse works on the acute surgical unit, managing and operating on patients who are admitted as emergencies. As Southampton is a regional trauma centre, the acute surgeons also manage and operate on patients who have suffered traumatic abdominal injuries. 

Miss Howse also carries out elective surgery and has developed an expertise in hernia repair, in particular for incisional hernias (hernias caused by a surgical wound that hasn't healed properly), and in gallbladder surgery.

Other interests include education - Miss Howse is the education lead for the surgical directorate and plays an active role in training and mentoring the surgeons of the future.

  • Antarctica Service Medal awarded by the National Science Foundation, 1995
  • David Bulmer Memorial prize in anatomy and embryology, 1998
  • Edith and Herbert Newitt Memorial Prize for achievement in finals, 2000
