Experience

Dr Heames is a consultant anaesthetist who has worked for the Trust since August 2005. 

He completed specialised training in vascular and major general surgery in Vancouver, Canada. Dr Heames is experienced in regional anaesthesia for shoulder surgery and is also skilled in sedation and regional anaesthesia for ophthalmic surgery. For colorectal surgeries, Dr Heames is trained to provide goal-directed fluid therapy.

Key achievements

  • Set up and ran the anaesthetic component of the acute core common stem training programme in anaesthesia for its first two years (2007-2009)
  • College tutor for over 50 trainees (2009-2012)
  • Organised AAGBI (Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland) core topics days in Winchester (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016)
  • Introduced the 2010 curriculum and e-portfolio to University Hospital Southampton
  • Clinical lead developing a pathway for post-operative analgesia following shoulder surgery
