Experience
Dr Hollingworth is a consultant gastroenterologist who specialises in neurogastroenterology, nutrition and intestinal failure. He was appointed as a consultant at UHS in 2020.
Dr Hollingworth looks after patients with a range of gastroenterological disorders, particularly focusing on patients with functional and motility disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. In addition to this, Dr Hollingworth is one of the four physicians who run the Southampton nutrition support and intestinal failure service. Southampton is a regional referral centre for patients with complex intestinal disease who require artificial nutrition and hydration support in the form of tube or intravenous feeding (administered into a vein).
He performs both upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies (tests to examine the inside of the body using a thin tube with a camera). In addition he places feeding tubes, such as PEG and Jejunal tubes, endoscopically.
Dr Hollingworth is the departmental lead for advanced nurse practitioners. He is involved in local and national teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
