Dr Shivaprasad Siddegowda

Dr Siddegowda is a consultant who specialises in stroke medicine and is the divisional director of medical education for division D.

Experience

Dr Siddegowda looks after patients after they have had a stroke and during their recovery.

He is also a named clinical and education supervisor, taking an active role in the training of junior medical staff and specialist nurses. He leads the department's mortality review.

He has a particular interest in clinics for patients who have had a transient ischaemic attack (TIA), or mini stroke. Other interests include service improvement, healthcare quality analysis, research and teaching.

Key achievements

  • Setting up the 24/7 thrombolysis (treatment for a blood clot) service at Great Western Hospital, Swindon in 2011
  • Being clinical director of the stroke service and developing the secondary care hyperacute stroke service and hyperacute stroke unit at Queen Alexandra (QA) Hospital, Portsmouth (2015-16)
  • Developing stroke simulation training at QA Hospital, Portsmouth to improve the safety of the thrombolysis service
  • Improving the stroke service at QA Hospital from level E or level B over a period of eight months (2015-16).

Research

Dr Siddegowda is involved in research trials that are currently being carried out by the UHS stroke service, and acts as principal investigator for  some of these trials
