Training and education

Dr Fenton studied medicine at St. Anne’s College, Oxford and Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, London, graduating in 2001. He completed junior doctor posts in London and Southampton, before pursuing specialist registrar training in clinical oncology in Wessex.

Fellowships

Dr Fenton completed a Fellowship at the European organisation for research and treatment of cancer in Brussels as the Emmanuel van der Scheuren Fellow in quality assurance for radiotherapy trials 2009-10. He was awarded his certificate of completion of training in clinical oncology in 2012.

Experience

Dr Fenton joined University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust as a consultant clinical oncologist in 2012.

Dr Fenton provides outpatient and inpatient chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments for thoracic malignancies and also delivers part of the Trust's acute oncology service. He is part of the acute oncology service lead team, the cancer care lead for SHO level junior doctors, and the cancer care lead for metastatic spinal cord compression. He is also deputy chair of the Trust's Macmillan advanced nurse practitioner training scheme steering group.

Dr Fenton is the chair of the Wessex strategic cancer network acute oncology group and a member of the Wessex strategic cancer network steering group.

Dr Fenton has an interest in technical developments within radiotherapy including advanced treatment techniques such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy, image-guided radiotherapy and stereotactic body radiotherapy, with a particular focus on the treatment of thoracic malignancies. He is also interested in training and education, including junior doctors, advanced nurse practitioners and allied health professionals.
