Experience

Dr Trevelyan has worked for the Trust since September 2004, having previously worked in a number of large paediatric units in the UK and abroad. She has completed training posts in several different paediatric sub-specialties including respiratory medicine, allergy and infectious diseases, developmental paediatrics and neonatology. Her main specialist training, however, is in general paediatrics and paediatric diabetes. Since 2004, Dr Trevelyan has been the clinical lead for paediatric diabetes in Southampton. She runs weekly children’s diabetes clinics and monthly general paediatric clinics.

For the last four years Dr Trevelyan has been involved in the national peer review programme review of paediatric diabetes services in England. In 2014 she undertook peer reviews of other paediatric diabetes services and also led the peer review of the service in Southampton. She has submitted data annually to the national paediatric diabetes audit (NPDA) for the last 12 years.

Dr Trevelyan is currently the chair of the Wessex children and young person’s diabetes network. Previously she has been part of a NPDA working group designing and implementing a patient related feedback survey to be delivered nationally. She's an active member of the Association of Children’s Diabetes Clinicians and helped write several of their national clinical guidelines for looking after children and young people with diabetes. She is also a member of the British Society of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. 

Dr Trevelyan is actively involved in paediatric diabetes research and has been the local principal investigator for several large multi-centre trials over the last decade, including DEPICTED, DECIDE, SCIPI, ADDRESS-2, DGAP and commercial trials including the Abbott Libre BEAGLE trial. 

Dr Trevelyan also has a large commitment to teaching. She helps run the child health undergraduate module for medical students from the University of Southampton. She teaches on the University of Southampton's MSc in Diabetes. She is also an examiner for the Membership of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health exams.
