This may be on the children’s assessment unit, on the ward or in the outpatient department depending on the clinical situation.

With a particular educational interest is simulation, and the use of in-situ simulation to develop teams and make systems safer, Dr Pryde organises the multi-disciplinary simulation programme for G level at Southampton General Hospital.

She is also jointly responsible for organising and running the child health monthly morbidity and mortality meetings.

Key achievements

  • Improving care for severely injured children across Wessex. After a year-long quality improvement fellowship during 2011/2, the time to intubation and time to CT for severely injured children within the region had fallen from 59 to 27 and 101 to 39 minutes respectively. This was as a result of the creation of regional trauma guidelines and a trauma team training course, developed by Dr Pryde as part of the fellowship.
  • Introduction of children as simulated patients into acute simulation programme – this has included the trauma team training day and most recently 52 children as simulated patients helping to test our new emergency department to ensure it is able to provide the highest quality care.
  • Developing quality and safety training programmes across the curriculum in child health regionally and nationally.

Awards and prizes

  • Health Education Wessex Notable Practice Award Winner 2013 for ‘Changing the culture of M&M reporting'.

  • Astra Charnwood Prize for most outstanding honours year project, The University of Nottingham.
