Experience

Dr Patel is a consultant hepatologist who joined the Trust in 2016.

She is experienced in a wide range of treatments for hepatology conditions, including liver transplant. She works with the cystic fibrosis unit to look after adult patients with liver disease. She also links with the obstetrics team to care for patients who have liver disease during pregnancy. She performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies of the upper gastrointesinal tract as well as diagnostic colonoscopies.

Dr Patel has worked with Southampton CCG to develop and implement the primary care liver pathway and establish a community based Fibroscan service.

She is the lead for Improving Quality in Liver Services (IQILS) and UHS has been the first in achieving accreditation for Stage 1. UHS will be the first hepatology unit in the UK to be assessed for full IQILS accreditation.

Dr Patel is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at University of Southampton and BM hepatology research projects module lead. 

She shares the post as fellowship programme director for doctors in training at University Hospital Southampton.
