Experience
Dr Hawkins is a consultant in general paediatrics who has worked for the Trust since November 2011.
After completing her early paediatric training in Birmingham, Dr Hawkins moved to Wessex in 2004. She has experience working in general paediatrics and our paediatric intensive care unit (PICU), and has a special interest in nephrology (the medical study of the kidneys). She sees children with both acute and chronic conditions and carries out general paediatric clinics.
Dr Hawkins also has an interest in education and is a course coordinator for fourth year medical students in child health. She teaches students in Southampton and works with medical student leads in other centres to evaluate and improve courses. Dr Hawkins is RCPCH college tutor for paediatric trainees working in child health. Here at University Hospital Southampton, Dr Hawkins is the director of medical education for division C.
Key achievements
Dr Hawkins enjoys her work with medical students and looks forward to being involved in redeveloping their curriculum.
