Experience
Dr Preka is a consultant paediatric nephrologist. Her main interests are acute and chronic kidney disease and renal replacement therapy (dialysis and transplant).
Part of her training was done in the paediatric and neonatal intensive care units at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Universite Libre de Bruxelles. Through this training, she has gained experience in dialysis in the acute setting in all age groups by applying different renal (kidney) replacement therapy modalities.
Further clinical interests include antenatal diagnosis and counselling for families who are expecting a baby with kidney and urinary tract abnormalities.
Dr Preka sees patients at a weekly general nephrology clinic. Her patients have a variety of kidney diseases, including:
- congenital abnormalities (kidney problems that the patient is born with)
- tubular diseases (disorders affecting the tubules, a part of the kidneys)
- glomerular diseases (disorders affecting the glomeruli, the part of the kidneys that clean the blood)
- vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels)
- renal cystic diseases (conditions that cause cysts to grow on or around the kidneys)
- ciliopathies (genetic disorders that can cause kidney problems).
