Experience

Dr Richardson has worked for the Trust since July 2000 as a consultant haematologist, and is the clinical lead for the department of haematology. She is also an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Southampton.

Her main clinical practice is in the management of patients with haematological malignancy undergoing intensive therapy and those undergoing stem cell transplantation. She also maintains a general haematology practice.

Dr Richardson's roles include being the ward attending consultant for the regional Leukaemia and Transplant Unit, lead clinician for molecular haematology, lead haematologist for the teenage and young adult unit development, and undergraduate education lead for haematology. She is also medical director of the Wessex Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit collection facility (apheresis unit).

Research

Dr Richardson's main research interests are

  • Novel transplant conditioning and molecular monitoring/immune reconstitution of patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. 
  • Doctoral thesis on 'Drug-induced apoptosis and cell cycle modulation in leukaemia cells'.
