MBBS MRCP FFICM PhD
Specialty
Respiratory, critical care and general medicine
Sub-specialty
Non-invasive ventilation (breathing support that doesn't need intubation or a tracheostomy)
Training and education
- Graduate of St Bartholomew’s and Royal London School of Medicine
- MRCP (Royal College of Physicians)
- MRCP respiratory medicine
- PhD from the University of Southampton

Experience
Dr Dushianthan is a consultant in respiratory medicine and the general intensive care unit (GICU). He joined the Trust in 2016.
His clinical work includes the assessment and management of critically ill patients in GICU. He also works as a general chest physician managing patients in the respiratory wards and respiratory high dependency unit.
His special interests include non-invasive ventilation for acute and chronic respiratory conditions and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a condition where the lungs can't provide enough oxygen for the body's vital organs.
Awards and prizes
- Welsh Thoracic Society Publication Prize 2012
- BJA/RCoA award 2012
Research
Dr Dushianthan's research interests include:
- surfactant biology, cellular membrane phospholipids and dynamic synthetic pathways in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
- perioperative and critical illness intravenous fluid therapy
- nutritional modifications of phospholipids metabolic pathways in critical illness.
