Experience

Dr Dushianthan is a consultant in respiratory medicine and the general intensive care unit (GICU). He joined the Trust in 2016.

His clinical work includes the assessment and management of critically ill patients in GICU. He also works as a general chest physician managing patients in the respiratory wards and respiratory high dependency unit.

His special interests include non-invasive ventilation for acute and chronic respiratory conditions and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a condition where the lungs can't provide enough oxygen for the body's vital organs.

Research

Dr Dushianthan's research interests include:

  • surfactant biology, cellular membrane phospholipids and dynamic synthetic pathways in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
  • perioperative and critical illness intravenous fluid therapy
  • nutritional modifications of phospholipids metabolic pathways in critical illness.
