Experience

Dr Schirwani is a substantive consultant in clinical genetics at Wessex genetics service, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, having joined in 2022. She is also a senior fellow in dermatology, providing a unique dual expertise.

Dr Schirwani plays a pivotal role in delivering cancer genetics services across Dorset. In 2023, she established and leads the regional dermatogenetics service for Wessex, conducting specialised monthly clinics encompassing cancer, paediatric, and general adult dermatogenetics. With a strong commitment to advancing patient care, she is actively involved in clinical research focused on rare skin diseases and is a passionate advocate for genomic mainstreaming and improved integration between clinical genetics and dermatology.

Research and publications

Dr Schirwani has several first and senior author publications. She was nominated for the prestigious John M. Opitz Young Investigator Award, American Journal of Medical Genetics (AJMG), in 2022, recognising her contributions to research.
