Nurse specialists

If you're being treated for cancer, one of our clinical nurse specialists will be assigned to you as your key worker.

Rob Keating, prostate cancer clinical nurse specialist

Rob has more than 30 years of experience in health care, clinical nursing, education, research, management and leadership. He has worked in urology and oncology for more than 14 years. Rob has advanced specialist nursing and communication qualifications, and nursing to diploma and degree level. He is passionate about patient care and support, and has had work published locally and nationally in nursing and research.

Alissa Price, uro-oncology clinical nurse specialist

Alissa has five years of experience working in oncology, starting as a staff nurse then progressing to a sister on a medical oncology ward, D3. She starting working with our CNS team in 2017, and specialises in the areas of testicular, ovarian germ cell and prostate cancer. Alissa has advanced communication qualifications, advanced nursing diploma and is now working towards her master’s degree.

Nick Lewis, bladder cancer nurse specialist

Nick qualified as a staff nurse in 2003. For the next two years he gained surgical nursing experience in various areas, before being appointed as charge nurse in urology. In 2009, Nick took on a new role as bladder cancer clinical nurse specialist, and developed the bladder cancer nursing service in Southampton.

Gus Seebaran, renal and testicular cancer nurse specialist

Gus has always been interested in working with people with cancer. He worked for a charity on developing a cancer information resource for patients, and has a degree in health psychology. Southampton General Hospital is the specialist centre for testicular cancer for the south coast region, and Gus is a core member of the team. He is also a member of the specialist team for kidney cancers.

Matt Archer, benign urological conditions nurse specialist

Matt runs clinics helping men with:

  • erectile function and continence issues (including post-prostatectomy)
  • urethral reconstructive surgery
  • lower urinary tract symptoms including post TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate)
  • renal and bladder stones
  • patient link for penile cancer.

After varied jobs including teaching and cycle training, Matt trained as a nurse in Southampton. He qualified in 2010 and worked in the urology ward for four years, before taking on a new nurse specialist role in 2014. When Matt’s not in the hospital, he’s usually found out on his bike.

Sally-Anne Shelton, key worker for men with advanced prostate cancer

Sally works with the oncology team (associate Professor Dr Simon Crabb, Dr Matthew Wheater, Dr Emma Killick, Dr Catherine Heath and Dr Kiran Daas).

She supports men being treated for prostate cancer that has spread beyond the prostate. Sally previously worked in haematology as a ward sister for cancer care and clinical research. She bridges the gap between the urology and oncology teams.

Support team

Becky Cook, patient triggered follow up for prostate cancer support worker

Becky was part of the admissions team at Countess Mountbatten House, and has also worked in the colorectal team as deputy team leader for the admissions team. She joined cancer care as a patient triggered follow up support worker for men with prostate cancer. This role helps men accept living with their disease and encourages them to manage it themselves.

Rebekah Rice, patient triggered follow up for prostate cancer support worker

Rebekah works with Becky, helping patients to accept living with prostate cancer and encouraging them on how to manage it.
