Southampton specialised mesh complications service

Our specialised mesh complications service provides comprehensive treatment for all mesh complications in line with the NHS England specifications. We have a team made up of a wide range of clinical specialists including surgeons, specialist nurses, imaging specialists, pain management, physiotherapists, psychologists and an MDT coordinator.

You can be referred to our service by your GP or a consultant. Each patient referred will be triaged and reviewed, and if your referral is accepted the team will discuss your case at a multidisciplinary meeting to ensure individualised care.

The service was established in November 2021 following the implementation by NHS England and provides comprehensive treatment for mesh complications, these have been recommended by BAUS (British Association of Urological Surgeons) BSUG (British Society of Urogynaecology) and a result of the First Do No Harm Report by Baroness Julia Cumberlege.

A further recommendation resulting from this report was a new patient safety commissioner role to champion the patient voice. This new role aids improving safety relating to medicines and medical devices and ensuring that all patient voices are heard.
