Cardiothoracic radiology
We provide radiological support for the Wessex cardiothoracic centre, and support the diagnostic tests and treatment carried out in the cardiac catheter labs and cardiac MRI scanner at the hospital.
X-ray
Our x-ray room is located on E level on North Wing.
The radiographers provide the x-ray service for the cardiothoracic care group. We use x-rays to gain information about the size and shape of your heart, and to check on the condition of your lungs.
As an inpatient you may be imaged using a mobile x-ray machine which will come to your bedside.
Cardiac catheters
Utilising 4 cardiac catheter labs and a hybrid lab we provide the radiographic service at Southampton General Hospital, where adults and children with heart disease are diagnosed and treated. Some of this is emergency treatment, and our service runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Cardiac MRI
MRI scans can produce detailed information about your heart and the blood vessels it supplies. You can read more about cardiac MRI in our patient information leaflet.
