Pelvic floor
The Southampton pelvic floor centre provides specialist services for patients with pelvic floor problems who live in Southampton, central southern England, the Channel Islands and beyond. We are located at Southampton General Hospital and aim to provide a clinically excellent service which is efficient and effective.
Pelvic floor problems are common in men and women of all ages. Symptoms include bowel leakage or faecal incontinence, constipation, difficulty with rectal emptying and rectal prolapse. These are embarrassing conditions and people are often reluctant to seek help. We see approximately 500 new patients every year with these complaints and offer a full range of treatment and surgery including sacral nerve stimulation and keyhole surgery.
In Southampton we have a particularly strong multidisciplinary team approach to treating pelvic floor disorders. This is important because patients frequently have problems within several areas reflecting a global pelvic floor weakness. Our team members work closely together to assess patients and plan surgery.
