Pharmacy aseptic service

Parenteral nutrition (PN) is the feeding of specialist nutritional products into a vein, bypassing the usual process of eating and digestion. PN must be prepared extremely carefully under sterile conditions, to ensure it safely meets the patient’s exact needs.

All PN used in our Trust is prepared by the pharmacy aseptic service, a team of highly trained technical staff and specialist pharmacists. We use state of the art clean-room facilities to prepare PN and a range of other injectable medicines. Our patients range from premature newborn babies through children to adults with all conditions. Our specialist quality assurance team supports the service, and we are regularly inspected by external expert auditors.
