Hepatobillary and pancreatic surgery
The service is established as the regional centre of excellence for this work performing in excess of 200 major resections each year. We are the UK’s leading centre for laparoscopic liver and pancreatic surgery and are the nationally recognised training centre for this work.
The patients we treat have primary and secondary liver tumours, bile duct tumours and pancreatic tumours. We also manage patients with benign conditions affecting these organs. By working closely with the hepatology, oncology, pancreatology and interventional radiology services, we are able to provide a complete multidisciplinary range of therapeutic options for our patients.
Upper gastrointestinal surgery
The oesophago-gastric (upper gastroenterology) team provides services for a population of 1.2 million in central southern England. We specialise in the investigation and management of patients with primary gastric and oesophageal malignancy. We also provide benign oesophago-gastric surgical services, in particular laparoscopic bariatric surgery and anti-reflux surgery.
Lower gastrointestinal surgery
The colorectal service comprises of 11 consultants, four specialist registrars and three colorectal specialist nurses together with a large supporting multidisciplinary team.
